*Strasbourg/EU Parliament/Angelo Marcopolo/- EU Parliament's Biggest Group of MEPs' President, Manfred Weber, that of EPP, from the Governing ChristianDemocrat Party in Germany, speaking Today to "Eurofora", appeared Upbeat on EU's Security/Defense policy perspectives, including in relation to its possible contribution in the Peaceful ReUnification of EU Member Cyprus, under UN auspices, which might be Soon discussed at a Multilateral Top level Conference at nearby Geneva, (See Infra).  - "There is really a Momentum" on that Now, President Weber Positively replied to an "Eurofora" Question about whether he believed feasible for an Effective "Push" on CFSP to be accomplished "between June and December 2017" EU Summits.

Topicaly, EU Parliament's ChristianDemocrat/EPP Group President, Topicaly spoke to "Eurofora" at the Eve of Wednesday's forthcoming Plenary Debate of MEPs on Next Week's EU Summit in Brussels, 22-23 June 2017.

A particularly Interesting, Concrete case in which EU's Security/Defence Policy might, eventualy, make a useful Contribution for Peace, Stability and Development in and around Europe, is also that of Cyprus' peaceful ReUnification process, which had been practicaly stalled, since January, mainly because of Turkey's insistant Claim for a Right to Unilateral Military Intervention even in the Future, added to the maintenance of Ankara's Troops at the Island, (which, in case of Agreement, will become Entirely, 100% integrated as EU Member State, including its currently semi-Occupied Northern Territories) :

  - Could, there, EU's emerging Security/Defense capabiliies, in Cooperation with the UNO, perhaps Find an Imaginative way to ensure Security both to Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, in the foreseable Future ?, "Eurofora" asked.

 - "I think that it should be part of the Negotiations" under UN Auspices and with EU Participation at Geneva's Multilateral High-Level Conference, (which could resume on June 28, if sufficient preparations are made at Bilateral Talks in Cyprus, until then) President Weber Replied to "Eurofora".

  - "Yes, Absolutely !", agreed also Weber on the possibility for Cyprus' ReUnification to be "one of the First Tasks" for the imminent development of EU's Security/Defense policy, particularly in Helping Guarantee Stability up to EU's Neighborhood.

+ "Thank you for making me Aware, about this", he kindly concluded on this Topical point, speaking to "Eurofora" with a smile, just before his imminent visit to Greece, later this week.

Interestingly, Weber's forthcoming move in that area practicaly coincides also with a new Trilateral Summit between Cyprus, Greece and Israel, in which will participate President Anastasiades and Prime Ministers Tsipras and Netanyahou, respectively, as well as their Foreign Ministers, in Athens, where the ChristianDemocrat/EPP Group's President is due to meet also the Main National Opposition's Leader, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Head of "New Democracy" Party, (Comp., f.ex., recently : http://www.eurofora.net/newsflashes/news/anticorruptionproeugreekformerprieministerdies.html , and from the latest Mitsotakis' declarations at EPP's Summit in Brussels : http://www.eurofora.net/newsflashes/news/greekmainoppositionleaderonbrexitukinurope.html).

+ Moreover, Weber spoke with "Eurofora" just before a subsequent Debate with EU Commission's President, Jean-Claude Juncker, Later this Evening, at the Beginning of EPP Group's collective Meeting in EU Parliament in Strasbourg.

Juncker has just Returned back from a Special High-level European Conference in Prague, (Czech Republic), precisely Focused on EU's CFSP. and will also lead MEP's Debate, Tomorrow Morning in EU Parliament in Strasbourg, about the current perspectives of the forthcoming EU Heads of State/Government in Brussels Next Week, (Comp. Supra). However, Questioned Briefly by "Eurofora", Later on this same Evening, Juncker, exceptionaly, didN't seem fixed on whether he might personaly participate in an eventual UN-sponsored Multilateral High-Level Conference on Cyprus in Geneva, (Comp. Supra), as he had already done on January 2017, at least not for the Time being.

Strategicaly located EU Member Cyprus' Top Political Developments have also a Growing Economic Interest for the entire EU, given also the recent Perspectives for even More Oil-Gas Findings in South-Eastern Mediterranean Sea, beween Cyprus, Israel and Egypt, for which the EU is preparing also "East-MED" Pipeline projcet, for Energy Transport Directly into the EU.

Questioned by "Eurofora" at Different occasions in the Pest, in Strasbourg and Brussels, French new President Macron, and EU Commission's vice-President competent for Enegry, Sefcovic, found that those Energy-related moves around Cyprus, already "are a Big Chance for All" , and, perhaps, "a Second Norway" Horizon, in the foreseable Future, (respectively : See
http://www.eurofora.net/newsflashes/news/frencheconomyministermacronegyptisraelcyprusgaspipelinebigchance.html + http://www.eurofora.net/newsflashes/news/eucommissionersefcoviconcyprusenergy.html). But, independent and Direct, new EU Energy sources, obviously also need an adequat EU Security and Defense policy, to help respect Europe's and its Friends' elementary Rights, (Comp.: http://www.eurofora.net/newsflashes/news/mepurgesactiobvturkishthreatsoncyprusenergyrources.html).

UK Prime Minister, Gordon Brownn's promise to French President Sarkozy that Great Britain will proceed to Lisbon Treaty's ratification was certainly fuelled further by MEPs' warning, meanwhile in Strasbourg, that all Enlargement stops until EU can have efficient Institutions for more than 27 member Countries.

EU Parliament's President, German MEP Hans Gert Poettering, formally announced this position, after consulting all Political Groups' Chairmen, Monday in Strasbourg, and most MEPs made the point crystal clear during Plenary Debates on Wednesday.

Thus, from Thursday, UK's House of Commons, at Westminster, gave its "Green Light" to Lisbon Treaty's ratification, which was completed later-on, after ovecoming some last minute attempts to block the process.

    - In only 3 other Member Countries we feel some "hesitations" : Poland, Czech Republic and Cyprus", said, meanwhile, EU Chairman-in-office, Slovenian Foreign Minister, Dr. Dimitri Ruppel, speaking to EU Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee in Strasbourg, However, "I didn't hear any explicit refusal", he carefully added.

Rupel's fears were later bellied in Cyprus' case, where a wide majority of political parties confirmed their support to the EU Treaty, but fears were confirmed in Poland's case, while Czechs said they waited for their Constitutional Court to pronounce itself.

A paradox is that the Polish President Lech Kaczynski, who reportedly expressed concerns about Lisbon Treaty, had personally signed himself its blueprint, while, on the contrary, Cyprus' new President, Christofias, despite its own party's opposal, declared that he'll respect the signature of his precedessor, former President Tassos Papadopoulos, in favor of EU Treaty.

But, "all that noise is a misinterpretations by some Western Media : Poland will ratify the EU Treaty, and even earlier than some other Member Countries", declared to "EuroFora", in a surprisingly optimistic tone, the Polish Chairman of EU Parliament's Foreign Affairs Committee, Jacek Saryuswolski...

2009 EU Elections were won by Parties against Technocracy and Turkey's controversial EU bid, while the 1999-2004 Majority Abstention trend decelerated. What should be done in 2009-2014 ?
