*Strasbourg/EU Parliament/Angelo Marcopolo/-
While EU is currently shaping its Digitalisation Strategy, a Debate in EU Parliament on "Education in the context of Digital Age", gave "Eurofora" an opportunity to raise the nowadays practical Issue of the Need, for EU's Education, Medias, Debates, Elections, etc., to use developed OnLine Automatic Translation Tools, in order to use EU's MultiLingual Potential. Organized, with the Participation of University Professors, and MEPs from the Biggest Political Groups, that Debate's panel included also "Pan-Europa International" movement's Secretary General, Professor Pavo Barisic, a twice former Minister for Science and Education, from the University of Zagreb, who Replied to a relevant "Eurofora"s Question on a transversal Topical Issue :

------

 - "Eurofora" observed that MultiLinguism had been evoked as an interesting factor for Nowadays Education in Europe, and we added that this also goes often for Medias, Politics, Debates, Elections, etc. In this regard, wouldn't it be important for Europe to Develop New Technologies of Automatic Internet Translation ?", we asked.

Naturally, this should Facilitate, not hinder, European Education's traditionally "Holistic" and Humanist dimension, (since the Ancient Greek Civilisation's times, with Aristote, etc), aiming to "Speak to the Heart and the Mind" of the People, "Eurofora" added, referring to relevant observations by both Professor Barisic and Austrian MEP Lukas Mandl, President of EPP's "PanEuropa" Working Group, earlier Today, (See also Infra).

----------------

 - "Automatic Translation is a very Important point", acknowledged in Reply to "Eurofora"'s Question, the German MEP Sabine Verheyen, the competent vice-President of the ChristianDemocra/EPP Group, also as its Spokesperson on Education and Culture, (as well as vice-Chair of EU's Delegation to South Afrika). - But, we also Know how "Difficult" it still is, to have Automatc Translation, she warned, at least for the Time being. Certainly, Education in English language coud cover almost everything, But we need also Education f.ex. in German, Verheyen added, particularly f.ex. in Training, and/or in an Holistic approach of Education, in order to Convay the right Values, by Speaking to People's Heart, she pointed out.

- Since Communication is the 1st Basic Competence, in this regard, "I am Grateful to you for Raising this Issue", because "MultiLinguism, particularly in Europe, is a Pivotal Requirement", stressed with emphasis "PanEuropa"s Secretary General, Professor Pavo Barisic, turning to look straight towards "Eurofora" who had put the above mentioned Question. Just to take 1 Example : one of the most Important works in Education in Europe was conducted by Alexander von Humbolt, (the famous German Explorator). He worked with more than 8 Languages ! Because Communication is where you Start including Communication through Languages", in this kind of activities.

- Digital "Technology can, of course, Help us, including Automatic Translation", Professor Barisic acknowledged.

-  "But, what Human Beings do is really UnImitable ! It canNot be Replaced", he warned.

- And, "People can be Motivated, if they are provided with the Basic Skills, during all their Lives", (i.e. with Life-Long-Learning", etc), he concluded on MultiLinguism. And "Motivation is the Key", Pavo Barisic underlined in fine.

Naturally this Fits quite well, inter alia, also with Humbolt's Paper "on the Diversity of Human Language" and "its Influence on the Mental Development of the Human Being". There he stresses that "The bringing-forth of Language is an inner Need of Human beings, ...a thing lying in their own Nature, indispensable for the Development of their mental powers ..., to which man can attain only by bringing his Thinking to clarity and precision Through Communal thinking With Others".

---------------------------------

=> Further Discussions between "Eurofora" and some other key Members of the "PanEuropa" Group, on the above-mentioned issues, Added, from a Practical point of view, the empirical Observation that current on-line Automatic Translation tools' Imperfections, certainly canNot replace a really Human and well-made Translation, but it can considerably Enlarge its overall Scope, Europe-Wide, (particularly by using also a spontaneously triggered, and proven efficient, practical Method of coming and going from the Automatically Translated vesion to the full Original Text, using at least a Basic Knowledge of the Languages to translate from,  in order to Rectify most inaccurancies provoked by the Insufficient yet development of the currently available On-line Automatic Tanslation Tools. After all, the Need to Boost Innovations able to considerably Augment those Digital Tools' Efficiency on MultiLinguism, was, right from the Start, a Main point in "Eurofora"s Question (Comp. Supra).

* EuroCorps, EU defence's etat major, which has just celebrated 15 years of age (1993 - 2008), is young enough to feel enthousiasm for missions to guarantee Human Rights, Peace and reconcilation : Strasbourg's Historic Symbols, but also maturing fast, (particularly under the current French EU Presidency), in order to prepare potentialy important developments in 2009 :

- "EUROCORPS" is a "unique tool" for "a Modern Europe", jointly managed by participating Nations without anyone deciding for others", to "support their efforts to promote Reconciliation, Peace and Human Rights' Values, which identify today's European ideal, with its Symbol-City : Strasbourg", stressed its Chief, Spanish General Pedro PITARCH, in a popular ceremony for the 15th Anniversary of the European Army Corps, at its Headquarters.

- "Today, we are ready and able to fullfil any Peace-keeping Mission may be decided by the Political leadership, since we can deploy up to 60.000 soldiers and/or other agents, mainly in land, but in coordination with Sea and Air operarions", (even to build vital Infrastructures, demining, keep public order, facilitate Elections, etc), said to EuroFora EUROCORPS' Spokesman and Press Director, Colonel Raul SUEVOS.

- "If there is an Agreement with the framework Nations, EUROCORPS could certainly contribute to guarantee manifold aspects of Peace setllements", told us recently General PITARCH.

---

EU Parliament asked, Summer 2008 in Strasbourg, " to place Eurocorps as a standing force under EU command", and "invited all (EU) Member States to contribute to it".

France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, and Luxembourg (participating with Funds, Telecoms and Officers), are EUROCORPS"' main "Framework Nations", due to be joined by Italy in 2009. Greece and Austria participate as "Contributing Nations", while Poland decided to upgrade its role. Turkey has liaison Officers for NATO relations, and even USA decided to send Officers to Strasbourg on 2009.

Observers await with impatience also the outcome of NATO's April 2009 Summit in Strasbourg in order to have a better view of EuroCorps' future.

Polls

2009 EU Elections were won by Parties against Technocracy and Turkey's controversial EU bid, while the 1999-2004 Majority Abstention trend decelerated. What should be done in 2009-2014 ?
