Turkey alters 2012 Boycott threat against EU on Cyprus after EuroFora + MEPs evoke EU Funds freeze

Many European observers noted the fact that Turkey altered today the content of its "Boycot" threat vis a vis EU contacts during the forthcoming rotating EU Presidency by EU Member State Cyprus, (less than 1 year from now: Starting on July 1st, 2012), one day after "EuroFora" discussed with MEPs the possibility to provoke, thus, also a "Freeze" of EU Funds spend for Turkey each year (more than 800.000 €, almost 1 Billion € in full Grants). ..
                                                                                                                                                                                        
Meanwhile, indeed, "EuroFora" had raised a crucial for Turkey Question, during a Press Conference by Critical MEPs from various political Groups and EU Countries (EPP, EFD, etc), earlier this week in Strasbourg :

- "One of the aims of Turkey's controversial and unpopular EU bid, already since 1999, was to Unblock EU Funds, which were, then, Freezed, because of Human Rights issues, Cyprus, Aegean Sea, the Kurdish problem, Armenian Genocide, etc."

- "Now, if Turkey really freezes or suspends its EU Negotiations, because of its claims on Cyprus, do you think that it would be normal for the EU to continue, despite that, to spend more than 800 Millions €, almost 1 Billion €, of Grands each year for Turkey alone, even during the present period of Financial Austeriy, large Budget "Freeze" or even Cuts  ?", we asked.

 - Indeed, "Turkey has a Privileged position Financially, compared to other EU Neighbouring Countries, precisely because of its on-going EU - Negotiations", (which are "Open-ended", and must respect EU's "Integration" capacity, according to official EU Council Decisions), reminded the co-President of the EFD (Europe for Freedom and Democacy) Group, Italian MEP Francesco Enrico Speroni in reply to "EuroFora"s question.

- "But I don't know yet, with certainty, whether any Suspension of these EU - Turkey Talks should, or not provoke also a "Freeze" of EU Funds to Ankara"'s government", observed the experienced EFD Group's co-President, promissing to "Verify" carefuly this crucial point.

+ Moreover, various Critical remarks were later added also by EU's High Representative, Baroness Cathy Ashtoçn, together with EU Commissioner for Neighborhood policy and Enlargement, Stefan  Fuhle, during last Evening's debate in EU Parliament's Plenary with a wide Majority of MEPs strongly Critical vis a vis Turkey, (See other "EuroFora'"s Publications already sent to Subcsribers/Donors earlier).

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      

=> Apparently, all this led Turkish Minister for relations with Europe,
Egeymen Bagis, (who was present this Wednesday afternoon in the sidelines of EU Parliament's plenary, duyring the EU - Turkey Joint InterParliamentary Delegation), to visibly alter Turkey's repeatedly brandished Threat to "Boycot" or "Freeze" its relations with the EU, during Cyprus' rotating EU Presidency (July - December 2012) :

- Bagis, indeed, anounced in Strasbourg that Turkey threatens to "Freeze" its negotiations particularly vis a vis EUU Council, of Ministers and Heads of State/Government, (which will be chaired then by Cyprus), but not vis a vis the EU Commission, nor vis a vis EU Parliament, as he claimed for the 1st time.
But it's not obvious at all that EU might accept such Discriminatory behaviors by 3rd Countries, cutting into 3 opposed pieces the European Union, nor that such a selective Boycott Separating EU's Institutions and opposing them so brutaly..

- "This (i.e. an eventual Suspension of EU Funds to Turkey if Ankara suspends, by Unilateral Boycott, its Negotiations with EU Counil : See supra), is a matter in which EU Parliament may intervene in the ways (f.ex. during the Annual EU Budget Vote), but, in practice, it's much more a question for EU Commission and EU Council", replied earlier experienced EFD co-President, mainstream MEP, Speroni, from Italy, to a relevant "EuroFora""s question,  (Comp. Supra), not excluding nothing in the Future...

EFD's co-President was speaking together with various other MEPs, including Cyprus' former Minister Helen Theocharous, mainstream Member of the largest Group of MEPs in EU Parliament : that of ChristianDemocrats/EPP, followed also by NI MEPs, even from the Socialist Group, etc.
