An interesting International Conference on Air Quality which is scheduled for Next Month (October 2015) in Strasbourg, should also start comparing how this Vital, Human Health, New Technology and Economy issue is faced in various other International Cities, (as f.ex. Geneva, Saint Petersburg, New York, Shanghai, etc), said in substance the President of Stasbourg's EuroMetropole, Robert Herrmann, (PS), in Reply to "EuroFora"s Questions, speaking, by a Timely Coincidence, just a few Weeks after the unexpected Death of a Famous American Scientist who had made Original Scientific Research on the particularly Hard controversy of the Air Pollution around WTC's "Ground Zero" at New York's Manhattan after the 9/11 Extremist Islamic Terrorist Attacks (See Infra).

Herrmann was, by another coincidence, speaking at the Eve of the Anniversary of September 11, in an officialy unrelated meeting with Journalists, including "EuroFora", organized by Strasbourg's Press Club.

    -----------------

+ Concerning an Issue with a very Strong Impact on Media, as the Quality of the Air that People Breath around the City, Herrmann reacted at Critical Press Reports about the Recent Disclosure of a Report Warning on Problems that have To be Adressed in the overall area of Strasbourg and the surrounding Villages belonging to its wider EuroMetropolitan area.

He basically contested a Claim Warning about an estimated Deterioration of the Air Quality by various Pollutions, and supported the view that, on the Contrary, Air Quality had rather slightly Ameliorated here during the last 10 Years, but Not Enough, as he admitted.

Moreover, in this regard, We are Not Responsible f.ex. for the Atmospheric conditions which are, sometmes, reportedly brought here from so far away, as even ... from Sahara, by various Geo-Atmospheric and/or other Phenomena, Herrmann protested. But, on the contrary, we are Responsible f.ex. for the kind of Emmissions by Municipal Transports and/or Vehicles working without Fuel, big Adminstrative Buildings, the Treatment of emmissions by Factories, a part of the Traffic, Public Heating, the Thermal Isolation of Houses, etc, as he pointed out, presenting himself as a convinced "Strong Supporter of Nature inside the City" of Strasbourg.

However, this has to be examined also at a Wider Horizon of several Years in the foreseable Future, as well as in comparison with International/European Standards, and regarding what is also happening in various other cases.

    - That's why, "that (October 2015) Conferene will bring Together both International Experts, and Experts from the Franco-German and Swiss Euro-Region of Upper Rhine", President Herrmann stressed in reply to "EuroFora"s main Question.

    - It will study the Air Pollutions' Risks that we are facing, and examine our Capabilities in order to Tackle them" efficiently.

+ This October 2015 Event "will be Followed, later-on, (in 1 or 2 Years' Time), also by anOther International Conference, whose aim will be, then, to Evaluate the Progress made, or not, on Air Quality, examine the eventual Problems or Shortcomings met, and conclude by making further, longer-term Proposals, he added.

++ Speaking later-on anew to "EuroFora", Herrmann agreed that it would be a Good Idea, indeed, to make also some Comparative Studies between Strasbourg and other International, Non-Capital Cities, throughout Europe, and accross the World.

New York, together with Shanghai, Saint Petersburg, Geneva and Strasbourg, etc., are among those International Cities, which are Not National Capitals, but rather Hosts to various MultiNational, Regional (f.ex. European, Asian, Inter-American, all African, etc) or International, Global Organisations, (such as the EU, CoE, ECHR, NATO, OCS, OSCE, CCC, UNO, etc), that Herrmann had earlier said, as a matter of general principle, that it would be Interesting and practicaly useful to systematically Study all together, vis a vis certain Challenges typically faced by all of them, and also Compare in common between real situations in many other such "Cities which are doing Similar things to those that we (Strasbourg) do, at an International relations' field.

By a Timely Coincidence, the move comes Shortly after the unexpected death, earlier this Summer 2015, of a Key American Scientist, Paul Lioy, Famous for having pursued Long and Original Research from the start on the composition and possible Health Effects of the Air that People breathed around WTC's Ground Zero, at New York's Manhattan, after the 9/11 Terrorist Attacks which, in addition to Killing some 3.000 Innocent Civilian Victims, moreover, reportedly provoked various Respiratory Illnesses also to Many Other People among those who had Breathed that Strange White Dust which had been Spread immediately after the Astonishing Implosions that Pulverized the 2 Big Towers, resulting, at first, in Spectacularly Giant Clouds covering most of NYCity, before dispersing into tiny Nano-particles which reportedly remained still in the City's surrounding Atmosphere longer than expected.

    ------------------

+ Meanwhile, Replying also to anOther Question by "EuroFora", on a Different sign of Strasbourg's on-going "Internationalisation", President Herrmann pointed at the  concrete example of a  Chinese Company, in the Para-Medical field, producing Pharmaceutical products, which is being established at nearby Illkirsh-Graffenstanden Technological Parc, (near the famous International Space University, the Optical Physics conglomerate, and Professor Champon's Genetic Science "Cathedral", as well as the European Center for Rapid Satellite MAPs in cases of Urgency, etc).

+ "The Paradox is that the Chinese haven't just limited themselves into merely making a Copy and sell it, but they are, here, participating also in Reseach and in the Fabrication of that innovative Product in France, in order to Export it, afterwards, both in Europe and in many Other Countries in the World, including China itself, etc, President Herrmann explained, in Reply to another Question raised by "EuroFora".

I.e., a processus Similar to that which was Recently Discussed, at the latest EU - China Summit, June 2015 in Brussels, (Comp. relevant "EuroFora"s NewsReports from the spot of that EU-China Summit, f.ex. : .....), which Focused mainly into Advancing Forwarcd, well Beyond simple Foreign Trade, by going Deep inside also of the Scientific-Technological Research, Innovation and Development of new Products, in paralle with a Strategy of "Joint" Euro-Chinese Investments also in RST and Production, etc;, (Comp. : ...........).

Europe brings Development dynamics at Global Crisis' Summit debates

eudevdays_400

Thanks also to EU Parliament Plenary's Strasbourg gathering, EU, during the French EU Presidency, managed to integrate the Development issues at Top Debates on the World Summit against the Economic Crisis  :

For the 1st time, it's at the same moment with the Wahington G-20 Summit that EU Commissioner Louis Michel co-organizes here with the French EU Presidency parallel mega-events for the "European Development Days", starting from this Week-End and concluding at the eve of a landmark debate in EU Parliament, next Tuesday, on the outcome and follow-up of the Wash.DC Summit.

EU and its Member Countries are the biggest donor for UNO's Millenium Development goals, with 56%, but the 27 are currently struggling to develop a collective leadership in Economic and social matters, that the 15 of EuroGroup (together with the UK and other countries interested to be usefully associated) are starting to spearhead, after the initial success of the 1st EuroZone Heads of State and Government Summit, of October 12 in Paris, according to a New Repport by MEPs Pervench Beres and Werner Langen on the 10 Years of EuroZone (1999-2009) debated Monday and voted on Tuesday.

EU, CoE and World personalities will interact here with Heads of State or Government from Tanzania (African Union chair), Burkina Faso (CEDEAO + UEMOA chair), Zimbabwe (MDC chair), Madagascar, Haiti, Mali, Benin, etc, and some 3000 participants from the Economy, Civil Society, Media, Experts, etc, while the City of Strasbourg adds various related Citizen-events.

Opened by French Secretary of State Alain Joyandet on November 15, and followed by a video-contact with EU Commission President Jose Baroso on the Washington Summit Sunday, the EDD are concluded by Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner on Monday, while their main concerns cannot be ignored in the Debate that EU Parliament will hold on Tuesday, (followed by a Resolution on Wednesday), jointly on the G-20 Washington Summit and on EU Commission's work program for 2009.

A practical opportunity for EU to reflect where it's better to spend EU Citizens' money...

The move is prolonged in several Paris' meetings of EU chair, French President Nicolas Sarkozy with African Heads of State leading regional Organizations, as from Tanzania (A.U. Chair), Burkina Faso (chair of Economic African organizations), Togo, etc, (in parallel with a Ministerial EU - African Union conference in Ethiopia, followed by a visit to Tchad), logically concluded by a meeting with Robert Zoellic President of the World Bank.

Many have already warned that an eventual aggravation of Development's Gap accross the World might become much more dangerous to Global Economy, Security, Values and Quality of Life, than Global Warming and/or other, even more serious challenges...

Will they find an innovative and voluntarist way to really deal with the Development Gap, which might also contribute to help face the Economic Crisis ?

Polls

2009 EU Elections were won by Parties against Technocracy and Turkey's controversial EU bid, while the 1999-2004 Majority Abstention trend decelerated. What should be done in 2009-2014 ?
