*Strasbourg/CoE/Angelo Marcopolo/- The experienced President of Finland, Tarja Halonen, who is also Co-Chair of UNO's Sustainable Development Panel on Growth compatible with Climate Change, speaking exclusively to "EuroFora", revealed that she is due to present, together with South African President Jacob Zuma, their long-awaited Report to UNO's Secretary General Ban Ki Moon "next week".

While EU is currently preparing a 1st €uroArea Summit focused on Growth, at the end of January 2012 in Brussels, notoriously expecting active cooperation from "G20" Countries and the IMF, the UNO move is due to provide precious and unquestionable High-level input for the forthcoming, exceptionaly important World Conference on Sustainable Development at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 2012, as well as for the Annual UNO's Climate Change Summit, due to take place on December 2012 at Quatar.

- "We'll give our Report" (on Global Sustainable Development) to UNO's Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, next week", Halonen anounced in reply to "EuroFora"s Question.

An initial Draft was prepared on January 12, 2012, at UNO's Headquarters in New York.

- But the official handout to UNO's SG is scheduled "at Adis Abeba, in the meeting with the African Union", revealed Halonen to "EuroFora".

- "So, I Hope that we shall see you in Rio !", optimistically suggested, smiling, UNO's GSP Co-Chair, and Finland's President, saluting "EuroFora" before her official speech and exchanges with CoE Assembly's MEPs, apparently based to her statements to "EuroFora" at the December 2009 Copenhagen Summit on "Climate Change", "the biggest in UNO's History, with more than 112 Heads of State/Government, as Ban Ki Moon had observed in Copenhagen, (Comp. "EuroFora"s NewsReports from the spot, at Denmark's capital).

At Rio, participants from all over the World, including Heads of State/Government, are due to take crucial decisions on Global Growth, Environment and Climate, while also reviewing the progress made by Humanity since the Historic, 1992 Rio "Earth" Summit, during the last 2 Decades (1992-2012).

+ Meanwhile, CoE's Parliamentary Assemby has voted recently (2010) in favour of recognizing also a "Human Right to a Healthy Environment", something that ECHR already partly ensures, in practice, by using for that purpose also several other, non-specific Articles of the PanEuropean Convention on Human Rights, (f.ex. protecting Family Home and/or Personal, Private Life ; against Inhuman/Degrading Treatments ; Human Life protection ; etc).

But the World Meteorological Organization has also warned, earlier on 2011, that Global Warming provoked by Climate Change, might trigger a growing series of "Extreme Weather Events", more and more Dangerous because of possible material Destructions, Mass Kilings, etc, s, f.ex. in the cases of the 2003 and 2010 French and Russian Heatwaves, respectivly, which killed some 15.000 and 30.000 innocent People, added to the Indian Tsunami back on 2004, and USA's Katrina giant Storm on 2005, as well as to several Floods, etc. in Central-North Europe, China and elswhere in the World, which have recently caused  concern also among MEPs in EU Parliament, who have just started moves asking not ony to face the consequences of destructive EWEs, but also to launch, at last, the required Scientific and Technologic Research in order to try to Prevent, or at least alleviate damages, (See relevant "EuroFora"'s NewsReports, particularly on 2010-2011).

Pierre Pflimlin's visionary line : Honouring the Memory of the man who wanted to build Europe on the Mountains, based on Spirit !

pflimlin.coe.1997_400

One of EuroFora's best inspirators is naturally Pierre Pflimlin :

We had a chance to personally meet the dynamic and experienced former President of both EU Parliament and CoE's Assembly, France's Prime Minister and Strasbourg's Mayor, only at his 90th anniversary, during an Historic speech at the Council of Europe, exceptionally full of people.

But his energetic figure looked more like a youngster of 19 years old, eager to win the Olympic games !..

Visionary, 2P was, from many points of view :

His daughter, Antoinette, Artist-decorator, and Senator Jung, President of a group of friends, confirmed us an Historian's revelation, that Pflimlin had initially the idea to build all European institutions (EU Parliament, Council of Europe, European Court of Human Rights, etc) at the spectacular heights of Oberhausbergen hills, with an eye-catching view of both French Vosges and German Black Forest Mountains, in the midst of a Forest : A real vision to create a brand New European Headquarters with a big ambition !

But, it seems, that "someone in Brussels" found that picture, precisely, too big for his taste, and threw a spanner on the works...

Pflimlin stroke back a Decade ago, at his Historic 1997 farewell speech :

He urged Europeans to find another, more substantial way, to lift Europe to more important Heights in Future :

- "On which basis can we imagine the birth of a great Europe ?", he asked.

"Certainly an Economic basis ! A solid market economy, meeting also the needs of social justice. A Political basis : Europe must become a strong Political Power, able to influence World's changes, naturally for Peace."

"But I believe that the essential foundation of a greater Europe should be of Spiritual nature : .... The great pacific Revolutions were Spiritual Victories" : They expressed "People's main motivation to live in a society with our Values of Liberty, Democracy, respect for Human Dignity".

"Then, the roadmap is ready : Yes, the foundation of the unity for a large Europe is the spiritual heritage, inspired by Christian Humanism and the Humanism of Renaissance, of Enlightenment, from which emerged a Civilisation focused on the Human person".

"Here is the task to be accomplished. It's very difficult".

"The Time approaches when I'll have to pass over the torchlight. God willing, this torch should enlighten the path of those who are going to build, tomorrow, the great Europe, marked by this Spirit".

(Extract from the Book "Pierre Pfilmin : Alsacian and European", 2007. Texts by Senator Louis Jung, by the long-time f. Director of Strasbourg's Newspaper DNA, Alain Howiller, and by f. EU Parliament's Press Director, Paul Collowald : See dedications, hand-written by the authors, the day the book for Pflimlin's 100th Aniversary was launched at Strasbourg's Press Club and European Parliamentary Association's headquarters, 13 April 2007).

Polls

2009 EU Elections were won by Parties against Technocracy and Turkey's controversial EU bid, while the 1999-2004 Majority Abstention trend decelerated. What should be done in 2009-2014 ?
