EIB Chief Hoyer to EF: EASTMED-like Projects Good for EU Green Deal (Independence+Climate Friendly)
*Strasbourg/EU Parliament/Angelo Marcopolo/- Experienced EIB's President Werner Hoyer (2012-2024), former Minister of Germany for European affairs, (See, f.ex.: ..., etc), Replying to a Topical "Eurofora"s Question, ensured, indirectly but clearly, that the "East-Med" Gas Pipeline project of Cyprus, Israel, Greece, and others, (f.ex. Italy, etc), for Direct Energy Transports inside the EU, withOut being Obliged to Transit from Any Foreign Country, has Nowadays come closer in Tune with EU's New "Green Deal" Policy.
------------------------------
- "Eurofora" asked Hoyer whether the New EU Commission's "Green Deal" policy would make More Important for the European General Interest, such Energy Transport Projects as the "East-Med" Gas Pipeline, Directly into the EU (i.e. withOut having to Transit via Any Foreign Country), from Cyprus/Israel Natural Resources, through Greece and Italy, with an EU Environment-Friendly Energy, deprived of any CO2 emmission...
EIB's President had been Invited at an Exceptional Joint Meeting of EU Parliament's Budget and Economy Committees in Strasbourg, for a Long "Exchange of Views" with MEPS, this Monday Evening, at the Eve of a Plenary Debate on "Green Deal", Tomorrow, Tuesday Afternoon, to be Followed by the Vote of a Resolution on Wednesday Noon.
--------------------
Earlier this Month, during a Trilateral Summit of Greece - Cyprus - Israel Leaders, for the Signature of 2 Contracts on the Construction and Supplies of that "East-MED" Project, new Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, stressed that it will offer "Independent Energy Sources" to Europe, with "Environment-Friendly Gas".
>>> - EIB's President Hoyer, in Reply to the above-mentioned "Eurofora"s Question, underlined, from the outset, the main Fact that, Nowadays, - "We (EU) shall have an Energy Policy based on certain Criteria :"
- "The First is Independence (from Foreign Countries, as Providers and/or Transit)", he pointed out ;
+ "while the Second depends on (C02) Emmissions", (which must be naturally Absent), Hoyer resumed in substance.
=> By doing so, he Obviously pointed at an Augmented Interest, in the New Context of EU's "Climate Neutrality" Targets' transition, for Projects such as the "East-Med", (Already Supported by EU Commission and even USA, etc).
Various Other such Projects, might, eventually, also be, f.ex. Romania's Gas Pipeline and/or River Transport Draft Plans from the Black Sea, Directly into Europe's Heartland, through Danube and Rhine, and/or the "Europe-Asia InterConnector", for Electricity Transport, through an UnderSee Cable, from Israel and Cyprus to Greece and Italy, (that Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, had Initially proposed, and which was Recently Boosted also by the current Cyprus' President, Nicos Anastassiades, etc).
+ "By reasoning in that way, some may even Find ...Nuclear Energy preferable", Hoyer went on to Add...
Indeed, French President Emanuel Macron, in his Press Conference at the Latest EU summit in Brussels, on December 2019, (See "Eurofora" NewsReport from the spot, at : .., etc), confirmed that Poland, Chechia, and others, had just Evoked a Possibility to use Nuclear Energy in the EU Transition towards "Climate Neutrality". But all Acknowledged, however, that, obviously, there are also some Security Concerns to Settle, in that case, (Naturally Absent in the case of Gas).
++ At any case, in the foreseable Future, an important Factor is also to Ensure the "Trust" of Banks and other Private Investors, to any such New Projects, advised, speaking in abstracto, as a matter of General Principle, the Experienced EIB's President, in his Replies also to MEP's various other Questions, Earlier.

Sarkozy stimulated by Irish "No" challenge : - "It's a call to change and build Europe otherwise. Not later, but now. It won't be easy, but it's fascinating !"
-------------------
* Paris, Elysee, June 14, 2008.
Forthcoming EU Chairman, French President Nikolas Sarkozy, created a surprise by declaring that the challenge of the Irish "No" to the EU Treaty, stimulates his belief that we must immediately change the way Europe is built.
A difficult but fascinating task, that he intends to accomplish in the next 6 Months, during which he will analyse developments 3 times to EU Parliament in Strasbourg, on July, October and December 2008.
But Agenda obliged to give a first reply to Questions raised by the Irish Referendum, on the sidelines of a Press Conference with USA President GWBush, in Paris' Elysee palace, Saturday :
Sarkozy's reply was twofold :
First, the Franco-German position is that EU must make sure "that the Irish Incident does not become a Crisis". Ratification must continue, after 18 EU Member States, also to the rest, as UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown promised.
But, pointing at deeper causes, Sarkozy also criticized bureaucratic "sabotage" of Europe's "founding fathers" original dream. The move reminded his Historic February and July 2007 speaches in Strasbourg on Europe's future, joining criticism to a call for EU's Renaissance, which now became urgent :
