61  European AGENDA / of European COUNTRIES / Romania: Basescu's win is good for EU's Rhine-Danube Energy link to Black Sea+ on: December 08, 2009, 04:15:16 AM
Romania: Basescu's win is good for EU's Rhine-Danube direct Energy link to Black Sea + Central Asia's resources.

The close but solid win of Romanian President Traian Basescu in Sunday's Elections is good news for Europe, because he knows best how to help the EU organize the new Strategic link Rhine-Danube, from EU's Industrial heartland to the Black Sea and well beyond (i.e. Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaidjan, Kazakstant, and other Central Asian Energy-producing countries).

He is an experienced Sea and River transport expert, and as a politician he knows perfectly well the issue, which has recently become of crucial importance, mainly for cheap and ecologic Energy transport, via a corridor controlled by EU itself and not Third countries, thanks to new technologies of liquified gas, etc. which can be stocked and transported in containers.

River axis Danube-Rhine has been declared a Priority corridor (No 18) for Trans-European Networks.

62  European POLICIES and ISSUES / Economy - Social - Technologies / EU outlet to Black Sea: Danube river, upgraded by Romanian-Bulgarian cooperation on: October 06, 2009, 03:31:27 PM
EU's new outlet towards the Black Sea since 2007, Danube River, is due to be upgraded, inter alia also by Romanian - Bulgarian agreements, expected to reinforce its "navigation" capacities.

This strengthens the link Danube - Rhine between EU's Franco-German core (but also Northern Sea : ie UK, Norway, Netherlands, Denmark, etc) and Central Asia Energy sources (fex. Kazakhstan, Kirgkistan, etc) via Azerbaidjan-Georgia and the Black Sea.

This axis is the only direct, straight EU link to Central Asia's energy sources.

64  European view on the WORLD / on International ORGANISATIONS / Sarkozy's 2009-2010 foreign policy focuses on Global Governance on: August 28, 2009, 10:18:00 PM
For the 1st time, French President Nicolas Sarkozy's 2009 annual speech to diplomats is almost entirely dedicated to Europe's role in the World, and mainly on the need to renovate Global Governance,

From Economy up to Environment or Politics (UNO), he stresses the need for change, particularly after the Crisis, in order to establish a more Moral and more Democratic International world order, without unilateral dictats and exclusion, financial abuses, social or environmental dumping, etc.

He calls for an ambitious program of public debates, open and transparent to the international opinion, and a vital renovation of the most important International Organisations, (UNO, IMF, WB, WTO, G-14, the creation of an international environment organisation, etc).

It seems that after June 2009 EU Elections, it's no more Internal EU issues that matter more, but EU's action on Global issues, at the horizon 2010-2011.

That's logical, but attention needs obviously to be paid, at least in the short term, also on the forthcoming German elections, end of September 2009. since all this plan depends also on the Sarkozy - Merkel personal and political links. If this goes well enough, he won't have to really deal with internal matters until the preparations for the 2012 French presidential elections.
65  European view on the WORLD / on Geopolitical REGIONS / EU unwillingness to get trapped in Afghanistan extends to Germany on: August 19, 2009, 04:53:56 PM

Calls to prepare a pull-out of troops from Afghanistan multiply in Europe, after German Liberal Party leader Westerwelle's anouncement today, following former Defence Minister Ruehe's criticism against the way Afghanistan campain is pushed towards a "complete Disaster", and current Defence Minister Franz Josef Jung's refusal to send more German troops there, despite NATO's demands.

Already, France and other European Countries had practically refused to send more troops at Afghanistan, except some experts or technicians for training local police, etc, when the matter had been discussed with Obama, who had asked for renforts, at Strasbourg's NATO Summit last April 2009.

Things had already started to worsen on the spot shortly after ISAF's rotating chair had been given to the Turkish army, a few years ago, progressively aggravating with deadly traps since then, and culminating in direct attacks recently even against ISAF's headquarters.

On the contrary, various people have started to think that in order to find a solution in Afghanistan, socio-political means should be used much more than merely military action, while those really responsible and hidding behind  9/11's barbaric strikes against simple American people back in 2001 have not yet been found, and might be other (even if related) networks.

66  European view on the WORLD / on Geopolitical REGIONS / China, Russia, North Iraq, Nabbuco blackmail, etc. too much Turkish oil tensions on: July 07, 2009, 04:17:00 PM
Many converging Facts clearly indicate that Turkey-linked lobbies seem currently involved at a hard power-game over Oil-gaz resources, badly needed for its heavily indebted, archaic and too much energy-consuming economy, at several fronts :

Russia (fex. competition South-Stream - Nabbuco pipelines, new deadly aggressions at Caucasus, etc), North Iraq (fex. series of deadly bombings against innocent, simple People, non-Turkmen inhabitants of Kirkuk, revival of the old pipeline to Turkey, etc), China (deadly aggressions and demonstrations by Turcic-speaking minority groups, etc), EU (threats against Cyprus' energy resouces, pressure, blackmails and manipulation in order to impose controversial Nabbuco pipeline, etc).

The whole picture, (with systematic provocation of unrest, tensions, conflcts, foreign interventionism, territorial revendications, etc.), is worrying.
67  European AGENDA / of European COUNTRIES / Bulgaria:57% for pro-EU Opposition to Socialo-Turkish bloc=>S.Stream. No Nabuco? on: July 05, 2009, 10:36:36 PM
------------------------------------------------------------------
Bulgaria: 57% win of pro-EU Opposition to Socialo-Turkish bloc=> Yes to EU-Russia South Stream. No to Turko-US Nabbuco ?!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The parties opposed to the out-going Socialo - Turkish government win a large victory with more than 56% of the votes.

- With 38% to the GERB Party ("Citizens for European Development"), added to more than 7% for "Blue Conservatives", the Opposition arrived to 46%.

To get a large Autonomous Majority of 56% they need to add also some 10% won by the "Attaka" party at the right, which recently won 12% in the June 2009 European Elections by campaining with the moto "No to Turkey's entry into the EU !"..

- On the contrary, the outgoing government of Socialists fell to only 18%. They can only add 13% by their smaller ally, MRF party, which inludes the Turkish lobby, totalling some 31% only.

But they have been discredited by grave incidents of Corruption, resulting even to the blocade of much needed EU funds...

=> If nothing dirsupts the obvious natural conclusion, respecting People's verdict according to Democratic principles, a new Government of center-right, in these conditions, could logically have an important GeoPolitical consequence on EU's Energy supplies :

- Definitively drop the controversial, too Long, too Expensive, and too Dangerous Turkish "Nabbuco" pipeline, mainly pushed by Anglo-Americans, and boost the EU - Russia "South Stream" pipeline, arriving to EU Member Bulgaria directly.

68  European POLICIES and ISSUES / Politics / GALILEO undermined by Commission's "lack of leadership", says EU Court on: July 01, 2009, 12:06:20 PM

Some bureaucrats inside Brussels EU Commission bear heavy responsibilities for failing to develop the most Strategic and ambitious European project : GALILEO, a competitor of the American GPS, satellite navigation system, denounced the EU Court of Auditors.

Brussels' Commission is accused for "lack of leadership", on this landmark project, and for imposing counter-productive choices, which aggravated some Member States'  national egoism, instead of resolutely developing the European General Interest, said Luxembourg's Court, in its conclusions on the causes which provoked delays and damages to the detriment of GALILEO, headquartered at Darmstadt, close to Strasbourg.

EU had decided to launch GALILEO in 2003, when everybody saw, during Iraq war, the vulnerability of American GPS, easily deviated by some devices made in former-yugodlavia..

71  European POLICIES and ISSUES / Enlargement - Foreign Policy / Iceland or Turkey ? ... What a question !... on: May 28, 2009, 11:58:44 PM
Iceland prepares its candidacy for EU accession. Good. It's a nice, developed European country, in culture, education and history, absolutely peaceful and friendly.

Last year, UK socialists of "New Labour" pushed Iceland to bancruptcy by blocking all its financial assets at London's City claiming, as a hollow pretext, the brittish .. "anti-terrorism" laws !!!... The moment chosen was oviously in order to hinder Iceland's candidacy as UN Security Council's new member, in order to impose ....Turkey instead, who was Iceland's competitor.

Too bad for that old UN SC at post-9/11 New York.. . But in EU Enlargment, certainly Iceland is so welcome that it will outpace Turkey's controversial candidacy soon.

In Global Warming times, this Summer, it's better for Europeans to have easy access to the refreshing Arctic Ocean !

(Which, by the way, has also plenty of oil and gas)..
72  European POLICIES and ISSUES / Defence - Security - Civic protection / New NATO SACEUR has many 1st: EU origin (Greece), Navy, PhD International relat. on: May 14, 2009, 01:06:15 AM
New NATO SACEUR has many "1st":

EU origin (Greece), Navy, International relations' PHD, Soft (Intelligent) Power adept, (etc).

- He is the 1st since France reintegrated NATO's military component. (That means Paris might have played an exceptional role for this choice).

- James Stavrides is of EU origin (Greek-American), and comes from the Navy.

- Reportedly proponent of an intelligent "Soft Power" (not only military, but also by Diplomacy, Trade, Media, etc), he holds a PhD. on International Relations.

Apparently, the Franco-German (Sarkozy - Merkel) hosts of NATO's 60th Anniversary Summit, which welcomed new US President Obama on april 2009 Strasbourg, aspiring to become the European Capital for Parliamentary Democracy and  Human Rights, developed original Symbols up to the Top, even of NATO's military commander...
73  European POLICIES and ISSUES / Enlargement - Foreign Policy / Sarkozy proposed a common economy+security area to Turkey + Russia, etc. (No EU) on: May 08, 2009, 12:05:54 AM
French President Sarkozy has just launched a call for the EU to start talks with Turkey (and eventually Russia, etc), for the creation of a "common Economic and Security area", instead of the controversial Ankara's EU "accession" bid.

Treating Turkey very (some would say "too") well, he calls it "an important and friendly country", with which Europe should have closer, privileged relations, and share part of common interests, but with no vocation to enter the EU : Those who lie, and don't say the truth are not real friends. On the contrary, friends speak the truth honestly, he observes.

The move comes while both ECHR and EU Parliament have just denounced anew Turkey's inability and/or unwillingness to stop, instead of aggravating serious violations of Human Rights and democratic principles, revealing, once again, that Ankara is far away from EU values, both geographically and in substance. (Fex. jailings of hundreds of elected politicians, etc).

Europe's cohesion, union and identity should not be undermined by endless enlargements, so that it can develop a strong political will, Sarkozy added, as a matter of general principle.

The EU, together with Turkey and Russia, etc. would make a conglomerate of almost "800 millions" inhabitants, he notes : Precisely, as numerous as the already existing CoE, which celebrates this year its 60th Anniversary....

But if this means to use CoE (with the necessary changes) for that purpose, then what will happen with its current main mission focusing on Human Rights, Democracy and Rule of Law (since the Warsaw 2005 Summit) ? Will it be progressively transferred to the EU, and to the ECJ at Luxembourg, (+ the EU Agency in Wienna), perhaps through Lisbon Treaty's "Fundamental Freedoms' Charter" ?

74  European POLICIES and ISSUES / Science - Health - Environment - Nature / Responsibilities for refusing to stop Airplane trips to Mexico ao infected areas on: May 04, 2009, 10:33:52 AM

Grave Responsibility for refusing to stop Airplane travels to Mexico a.o. infected areas

When facts prove that nearly all persons infected by the strange new Virus H1N1 throughout the World have had contacts with Mexico (or California, etc), it may seem Criminal to refuse France's and other EU Countries demand to stop Airplane travels from the area where almost 30 People have already died, and many Hundreds are infected !

--------------------
