31  European POLICIES and ISSUES / Enlargement - Foreign Policy / Which EGYPT vis a vis Europe+ ? on: August 24, 2013, 12:41:18 AM

From a purely Geo-Political point of view,  Egypt has to choose between a Renaissance of the proud Pharaon and Alexandria's Ancient Civilisations into a Modern State with Excellent Relations to Europe, or a retrogradation falling back into an obscurantist, underdeveloped and servile Colony under Turkish+ domination, as in a Dark Past....
32  European view on the WORLD / on International ORGANISATIONS / UN SG support to Russia - US deal on Syria talks with all Opposition+Regime on: May 11, 2013, 01:02:28 AM
UNO's Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, reportedly welcomed the recent deal brokered by Russia and the USA for a Peaceful Solution of the Syrian conflict, (thanks to a Foreign Ministers Lavrov - Kerry meeting in Moscow), through Negotiations between all representatives of the Democratic Opposition and of the Government for a Political Transition.

Apparently the UK joined the move, after the French Foreign Minister Fabius also confirmed his adherence to all opposition's representatives' participation to Pëace Talks with the Syrian Government, which accepted the deal.

Only from the Turkey-based CNL (whose Chairman is due to resign, because of disagreements) some dissending voices were heard, long afterwards, while political developments accelerated since the denonciation of Turkey-backed Extremist Islamic Rebels' abuse of a Poisonous and Deadly Gas (similar to that which had been used in the Past in a Terrorist Attack at Tokyo's Subway in Japan), shortly after the Turco-Chechen Terrorists' deadly Bombing in Boston, US.

It's really to hope that the forthcoming Geneva-based UN sponsored Peace Talks will really succeed to gather together ALL the main Democratic Opposition groups, (Terrorists naturally excluded) without the strange Divisions of the Past, which have hindered a Peaceful Solution for too long, until now.
33  European view on the WORLD / on Global ISSUES / Turkey-backed Rebels abused of NAZI inspired Sarin Gas in Syria, UNO denounces on: May 06, 2013, 10:49:13 AM
Armed Islamic Extremists, notoriously backed by neighbouring Turkey a.o., abused of Deadly Sarin Gas in attacks against the Syrian State, denounced a UNO team headed by famous former International enal Court Attorney, Carla del Ponte, from Switzerland.

NAZI had reportedly developed the Sari gas, which was declared by the UNO as a Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD), while Japanese Terrorists have later attacked Tokyo's subway.

The UNO's Official said that investigators already found sevetral Testimonies revealing such incidents provoked by Rebels in Syria, which is also consistent with the medical treatments to the surviving  victims, confirming earlier denonciations by the Syrian Government, , that should be further investigated.

34  European view on the WORLD / on International ORGANISATIONS / Hilary(US) on Syria: NO to Turkey-based NSC, hijacked by Islamist Terrorists ! on: November 04, 2012, 08:17:41 PM
Turkey-based NSC, hijacked by Islamist Terrorists,  No more recognized for Syria, says Hilary (USA)

The Turkey-based, so-called "National Syrian Council" (NSC) has been more and more "hijacked" by brutal Islamist Terrorists, and is no more recognized by the International Community, particularly after the latest, atrocious War Crimes committed against defenseless and unarmed Prisoners by a few jihadists who cowardly massacrated the jailed former soldiers or officials of the Syrian State, reportedly anounced in substance the American State Secretary Hilary Clinton, during a visit in new EU Member Croatia.

On the contrary, the Syrian oposition must be United all together, to include all those who are inside the country or at exile, and should better create a new, overall "Leading Structure",  in order to become able to really press efficiently for a political change, Hilary added, (i.e. apparently agreeing, at last, with what others had already asked for, including, f.ex. the Russians, etc).

Earlier, the U.N. strongly denounced the scandalous Killings  of POWS, as pictured in a Video which was published in many websites at the Internet, and could serve as Evidence in order to prosecute and punish those who committed such horrible "War Crimes", according to a UN Official.

Meanwhile, in Turkey, (whose interests are obviously opposed to the reunification of all the Syrian opposition, because this would inevitably include also the Kurdish region of Syria which could revendicate a similar Autonomy as that of Iraqi Kurds, so that the Kurds of Turkey would remain the only to be refused any Autonomous Regional Structure by Ankara's Authorities), the smokes and Fires which hit a Camp in which the Turkish regime has obliged the Syrian Refugee Families to be closed, (without recognizing them at all any legaly protected "Refugee" status, contrary to the relevant International Treaty of Geneva), reportedly killed a small Child.

It's a pity that Obama looks as if he has rather droped Hilary Clinton (former 1st Lady of the US) from his 2012 candidature ticket for re-election in the forthcoming, November 6, US Presidential vote where he faces the Republican candidates Romney and Ryan, who have reportedly criticized the out-going president for allegedly giving too much concessions, Worldwide, even to some apparently Extremist Islamists with Brutal manners, who seem Dangerous against basic Democratic and Human Rights' values.

37  European view on the WORLD / on Global ISSUES / Obama asks help from the EU to drag USA's ailing economy on: August 02, 2012, 01:21:45 AM
Facing in 2 Months a hard electoral vote contest by GOP's new US Presidential Candidate Romney, Obama practically urged EU leaders to help boost the ailing USA and Global Economy, after Treasury Secretary Geithner observed that Washington's Budgetary situation didn't allow it to stimulate business, followed by IMF's Head Lagarde's denonciation of the fact that serious questions are raised today by USA's Financial problems.

Obama immediately phoned to Hollande in France, who anounced afterwards that Global Economy needs a stimulus to be given by Eurozone's Central Bank, due to convene tommorrow at Frankfurt. Geithner had already stressed that US Economy couldn't currently find a "Drag" (as he reportedly put it) but only by Europe, if it decides to push Growth in EU Countries. By coincidence, this fits the name of "Draghi", ECB's head, an Italian former Goldman Sachs' agent, who recently anounced strong European moves to come...

Geithner earlier made an  unusual trip through the EU, not hesitating to travel even at a Northern Sea island, far away from capitals, to meet holidaying German Finance Minister Schäuble, as well as Draghi back in Frankfurt, repeating almost desperate urgent calls asking from the EU to hurry up and move to boost Growth, which obviously could attract USA imports.
38  European AGENDA / of European COUNTRIES / Basescu wins +60% in Popular Referendum at Romania ! on: July 30, 2012, 12:06:31 AM
Twice elected Romanian President Traian Basescu wins a crucial Referendum with a large Majority of about 60% of Registered Voters, after his suipporters' call to Boycot a controversial demand by recently apointed Socialist Prime Minister Ponta to impeach him, failed to attract at least the required, minimal Threshold of 50% votes cast, since some 55% abstained and another 14% voted in favor of Basescu, (i.e. practically leaving only a Minority of less than 40% of registered voters accept an unprecedented impeachment of a President of the country), who faced harsh attacks against him just after he tried to push forward a stronger anti-Bureaucracy and anti-Corruption Agenda.

39  European POLICIES and ISSUES / Enlargement - Foreign Policy / Serbia: Right wins 2012 Election: Yes to the EU, No to Corruption on: May 21, 2012, 12:09:49 AM
Serbia: Center-Right, supported by Rightists, wins 2012 Election: Yes to the EU, but No to Corruption

The 2012 Presidential Election in Serbia, a Country with a fresh, official "Candidate" Status for EU Accession, and the only "Missing Link" for EU's Rhine-Danube rivers corridor from the Black to the Northern Sea, through Franco-German a.o. Countries' Central Europe, as well as an Historically Strategic corridor from Central Europe right towards the Middle East through Hungary and Greece, etc., was unexpectedly won by the Head of the Center- Right, Nicolic, who was allied also to a Rightist party.

The Winner reportedly stressed that Serbia's European, pro-EU orientation will be kept, but that an Anti-Corruption campaign must start now, as one of the means to restore the country's Economy.

Earlier, several Media had reported that new, Socialist French President Hollande would have endorsed the candidate who finaly Failed : Tadic.  (F.ex. : http://www.b92.net/eng/news/politics-article.php?yyyy=2012&mm=05&dd=17&nav_id=80286 )
40  European view on the WORLD / on Global ISSUES / €uroArea Exports' surplus to the U.S. jumped up in 2011 ! on: February 10, 2012, 09:57:44 PM

The Foreign Trade Surplus for €uroArea's 17 Member Countries' Exports to the U.S., compared to Imports, marked a growing Acceleration in 2011,  after U.S. "Exports to the €uro zone fell - 1.6 % in December (2011) from the same month in 2010", according to the latest data.

Thus, the augmentation of €uroArea Imports' from the U.S. is "Down Sharply from + 15% year-over-year growth from that region in August", reportedly observed "Paul Dales, an economist with Capital Economics".

EU "consumes nearly one-fifth of U.S.' exports", and this result is due to lessen U.S. Growth expectations for 2012.

+ Moreover, "U.S. officials recently expressed their concerns" on EU Economy's possibility to "trigger the notable decline in U.S. exports to Europe, thus widening the U.S. Trade Gap this year" (2012).

This sudden, big Change, towards the end of this Global Crisis, where €uroArea focused exclusively on investing in Competiviness' gains, via Scientific/Technologic Innovation and Structural Reforms, while USA used both RST investments and classic Keynesian stimulation of Consumers' massive demand, might be a factual indication that €uroArea probably is going to win this challenge.
----------------------
In overall,  "it was the largest imbalance since June" 2011, "because imports grew at a faster pace than exports":  U.S. "Imports rose + 1.3 %" while "Exports increased + 0.7 %" only".

=> This resulted in an ... U.S. trade deficit unexpected rise ... in December, the Highest level in six months" since June, from some - 38 up to almost - 49 Billions $. (i.e. about + 11 Billions $ worse).

+ In addition, the Annual "Deficit with China climbed to an all-time High of  - 295.5 billions $, up + 8.2 %from the previous record set in 2010. Both imbalances were the largest ever recorded with a single country", mainstream Media reported.

"The U.S. trade Gap widens sharply in December (2011) as ... Imports surged + 3.0 Billions $ .... Meanwhile, Exports edged up + 1.2 billions $".

=> In consequence, "2011 trade Deficit was (up for +0,3% of GDP)  corresponding to - 3.7 %of U.S. gross domestic product, compared to 3.4 percent in 2010".

For the full year (2011), the U.S. "Total goods and services Deficit ..climbed from - 500 Billions $ in 2010" to -558 billions $ in 2011", i.e. the "Highest level since 2008",  (i.e. just when the Global Economic Crisis was triggered from the U.S.)...

42  European view on the WORLD / on Geopolitical REGIONS / UN slams Bashar Assad's Deadly Violence, asks Accountability+Humanitarian Access on: August 04, 2011, 12:46:50 AM
It starts working, almost as you said
(even if it's obviously still not enough, in real practice) :

UN gives 7 Days for Syria to Stop + Punish Deadly Violence, open Free Humanitarian Access + Investigation

In particular :

Quote
“The Security Council condemns the widespread Violations of human rights and the use of Force against civilians by the Syrian Authorities". In this regard, it "expresses its Grave Concern at the Deteriorating situation in Syria, and ..profound regret at the Death of Many Hundreds of People".

It also "calls for an immediate end to all violence". "Syrian Authorities (must) fully respect human rights and ..comply with their obligations under applicable international law", while, "those responsible for the violence should be held Accountable.

“The Security Council ...regrets the Lack of progress" in reforms "and calls upon the Syrian Government to implement its commitments" It "stresses that "the only solution to the current crisis .. is through an inclusive and Syrian-led political process, ..effectively addressing the legitimate aspirations and concerns of the Population, which will allow the full exercise of fundamental freedoms .., including that of expression and peaceful assembly"

+ Moreover, “the Security Council calls on the Syrian authorities ....to allow expeditious and unhindered Access for international humanitarian agencies and workers, and cooperate fully with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights", as well as "to alleviate the humanitarian situation in crisis areas by ceasing the use of force against affected towns".

For that purpose, it "requests (UNO's) Secretary-General to update the Security Council on the situation in Syria within 7 days", (i.e. before August 10).
------------------------------------

UNO's High Commissioner for Human Rights, Ms Pilay, has repeatedly "urge(d) the (Syrian) Government to allow (a UN) Fact-Finding Mission into the country to assess the situation first-hand".

“It is high Time that we work towards Accountability for Perpetrators of human rights Violations in Syria in recent months,” said Ms. Pillay. “There is a need for an international, transparent, independent and prompt Investigation into the violence, the Killings, the excessive use of force, the arbitrary Arrests, ill-treatment and Torture that the People of Syria have been subjected to,” she added.

The move came after fresh &"reports that at least 145 People have been Killed in demonstrations in Syria during the past 4 Days and called for an end to the bloodshed, warning the country’s authorities that the world is bearing witness to the brutality against civilians.

“The Government has been trying to keep the world blind about the alarming situation in the country by refusing access to foreign journalists, independent human rights groups and to the fact-finding mission mandated by the Human Rights Council,” said Navi Pillay, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

“But they are not succeeding. The world is watching and the international community is gravely concerned. I stand in solidarity with peaceful protesters who are demanding that the persistent violation of their human rights ends now. I also stand in solidarity with the families of all the victims who have lost their lives since the crackdown began, and condemn in the strongest terms the reprehensible violence this Government is using against its own people.”

A spokesperson for Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, meanwhile, told reporters at UN Headquarters that the UN chief believed that the violence in Syria was “totally unacceptable” and felt that President Bashar al-Assad had “Lost all sense of Humanity.”

(../..)

Since mid-March, Syria has been rocked by deadly civil unrest, driven by calls for greater civil liberties. The strife followed similar protests that toppled entrenched regimes in Tunisia and Egypt. "

44  European AGENDA / of European ORGANISATIONS / Turkey unlike Ukraine+ ? EU Commission/Council/Parliament's main Weekly AGENDA on: May 21, 2011, 01:01:36 AM
Just to complete what "Horizon" published earlier, (on EU Commission's consultations of EU Citizens)
by adding also a reminder of EU Council-Commission-Parliament's main Agenda :   http://europa.eu/eucalendar/

Particularly useful, from next week, with (ex-Socialists) Ashton and Fuhle's Press Conference, where they apparently risk to impose even to the New EU Neighborhood strategy a geo-politically astonishing exception for Turkey, considered (by them, contrary to the large Majority of Democratically expressed EU Citizens' will !) as a so-called "Accession Candidate" Country, unlike f.ex. Ukraine, (current CoE President and an undeniably "European" Country)... ,

Thanks God, the event is marked "TBC" (i.e. "to be confirmed"), and could, apparently, be cancelled or postponed up to the last minute...
45  European POLICIES and ISSUES / Economy - Social - Technologies / French Growth Twice Stronger than in UK - USA (+Fertile European surroundings) on: May 13, 2011, 01:48:31 AM
French Growth Twice Stronger than in UK - USA (among fertile European surroundings) !

Jumping from +0,4% this time last year, well beyond +0,6% initially expected : up to more than + 1,0%, France's Economic Growth at the first trimester of 2011 makes now credible estimations of more than + 2% Growth in 2011 and perhaps + 2,5% in 2012.

Comparatively, the move is "Twice Better than in the UK, and much more than twice USA's growth durring the same period, reportedly stressed Prime Minister Francois Fillon.

All growth-stimulating parametres are on the "Green" : Private Investment re-started with + 0,7%, Consumption is strong and + 50.000 New Jobs are expected for this same first trimestre 2011, Economy and Finance Minister Christine Lagarde added, pointing particularly at the manufacturing industry.

The move may be soon even more stimulated by additional Growth in Neighbouring European Countries, which is also expected to jump up in 2011 and 2012 according to IMF Experts.
