Title: EU Commission's multilinguism should advance faster !
Post by: AnnaChe on May 22, 2009, 10:25:25 AM
It's good that EU Commissioner on Multlinguism, M. Orban, reportedly said to Eurofora that he started to bring together EU industry, research, business, administration and civil society, to try to create new, performant automatic translation tools. (See : May 7 article).

>>> But isn't it late ?  US companies, (fex. the multilinguist, etc), CIA, a.o. already have invested in that sector a long time ago. With all the needs EU has in multulinguism, particularly after its 2004 and 2007 enlargments to 12 more member States, what is it waiting for ?...

Title: still under consideration ?

Many things happened since then. There have been also statements by EU Commissioner Vassiliou, and others, as well as several Start-up private Companies which seem to have start making some interesting (even if still insufficient) moves, etc.

> From now on, it's mainly up to EU Commissioner Oettinger, competent on Digital economy, in cooperation with some other among his collegues. Given also, at least, German chancellor Merkel's impressing entry already since October 2013 (just after brillantly winning the September 2013 National Elections) on Internet and EU's vital need to develop its Autonomy in that key Global field, particularly at the "after Snowden" era, apparently, there is a European political will.

But TIME is running fast...
